授業の目的?内容 /Course Objectives |
In this one-semester course students develop their ability to write essays that have logical academic structure, using appropriate academic tone, style and language. Students will need to express their opinions and reasoning clearly in argumentative style essays. This course focuses on improving students’ "writing" skills, as stated in DP 2. It helps students obtain "comprehensive English proficiency" and to acquire "the ability to express various ideas and issues in correct English written form," as stated in the CP. | ||||||||||

授業の形式?方法と履修上の注意 /Teaching method and Attention the course |
Students work on the same issue for the first model 1000-word essay. The issue for the second essay is selected by students from several possible choices. Essays will incorporate researched sources, using paraphrases and quotations. Essay assignments involve research, outlining, drafting, detailed revision and editing. Students receive detailed handouts for academic writing guidance on content, structure and style. Students receive detailed instruction on all aspects of the academic research essay process. Students practice various academic writing skills. |
